Biography

Hong Kong-based pianist FU Hou Thai began his early piano lessons with Eva Ho in Hong Kong and studied with Tatiana Sarkissova at the Royal Academy of Music in London and chamber music with Ian Brown, Diana Ketler, and Kathryn Stott. He also received coachings on German lieder interpretation with Ian Partridge and Richard Stokes. He was a recipient of several accolades from the Academy for his academic achievements. Apart from his formal studies at the Academy, he worked closely with the maverick pedagogue Andrzej Esterházy.

Hou Thai maintains a strong interest in the late Classical and Romantic periods and begins to gain recognition for his eclectic and innovative recital programmes. His versatile performances both as a soloist and chamber musician have taken him to various distinguished venues in the UK and continental Europe.

Hou Thai has performed in masterclasses and in private for André Laplante, Nancy Loo, Ann Schein, Edna Golandsky, Jacque Rouvier, Hamish Milne, and Enrico Pace, amongst others. Other formative influences include lessons with Roy Howat, Daniel-Ben Pienaar, Robert Weirich, and Norman Lee.

Hou Thai also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia. When not practising, he enjoys reading, writing calligraphy, watching films, and tinkering with Legos.
